If you’re like most of us, you’re probably trying to lose weight in some form or another. You may have seen commercials promising instant results. Unfortunately, there is no magic potion that will work instantly. However, there are tools that you can use to help reduce your belly fat quickly.
What Could be Causing Your Belly Fat?
First, we have to get into what causes belly fat. Diet is arguably the primary cause of belly fat. How often we eat and what we eat play a vital role in accumulating belly fat. This, combined with inactivity, stress, and other factors, can play a role in how much belly fat you carry.
Age can play a role in belly fat as well. As you age, you lose muscle mass. This makes it difficult for your body to burn calories as fast as it used to; thus, weight gain is almost inevitable without the proper habits. However, just because one is getting older doesn’t mean they have to gain weight or slowly wither away.
These five proven ways to lose belly fat will work for anyone of any age.
1. Don’t Eat Before Bed
There is evidence that eating before bed isn’t bad for you. However, there is also evidence that eating before bed isn’t ideal. Confusing right? Here is what we know, it’s easy to go overboard with after-dinner snacks. Many nighttime snacks are not portion-controlled, such as chips and cookies.
Late-night snacks can also cause indigestion and bloating in the morning. Bloating can make It appear as though you have extra belly fat.
2. Eat More Fiber
Fiber-rich foods are excellent for weight loss. Fiber binds to fat and sugar molecules, thus reducing the number of calories you get! In addition, fiber-rich foods are filling, so you will be likely to eat less than you would if you were not eating fiber. Furthermore, fiber helps with digestion. Fiber can also prevent diabetes cancers and help you maintain a healthy weight over time.
Foods that are high in fiber include:
- Apples
- Green beans
- Collard greens
- Broccoli
- Sweet potato
- Raspberries
- Beans
3. Avoid Processed Foods
Processed foods often have high levels of sugar, sodium, and fat. This can lead to health issues such as obesity and heats disease. Processed foods are also very addicting. These foods stimulate the dopamine center of the brain. In other words, It tells our brains, “I like this; let’s eat more!”
Furthermore, processed foods have low nutritional value. This is because they are not providing your body with beneficial nutrients.
How can you avoid processed foods? Go for minimally processed meats such as chicken breast. Limit your consumption of processed meats such as bacon, sausage, and salami. You can also cook at home for healthier meals. Check out our blog, The Top 9 Healthy Meats for Weight Loss – Community Health Network – Blog (mychn.org), for more non-processed healthy meats.
4. Do Something Physical
Physical activity combined with a balanced fiber-rich diet can help you lose belly fat relatively fast. Physical activity such as working out, a simple walk, or even cleaning can help you burn calories. The key is to be active in some form consistently. Physical activity is linked to living longer, lower risk of disease, and improved levels of mental health.
Walking is one of the easiest ways to incorporate physical activity into your day. Walking is excellent for your mental health and mood. It also can aid with digestion, as well as burning fat. Walking as little as 15 minutes a day can help you see these life-changing benefits.
Bottom Line
While you can’t lose all your belly fat overnight, you can quickly do so with the right tools and consistency. Physical activity and a balanced diet that includes Fiber-rich foods can help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. You don’t have to eat like a rabbit to be healthy and maintain a healthy weight. The key is to find healthy foods you like.
In addition, you don’t have to be a gym rat to be active. The key is to find the physical activities you enjoy and be consistent.
