If you have a hard time staying full until lunchtime, you’re so not alone. The key to a more satisfying breakfast is protein, but that doesn’t mean you have to scarf down a massive omelet on the daily before heading out the door. Just take it from Jennifer Aniston, who shared her clever trick for staying satiated all morning long with Elle.
Aniston is best known for playing Rachel Green on Friends. To us foodies, her famous chocolate-cherry protein smoothie and namesake salad (which she, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow used to eat for lunch every day on set) rival her iconic role. But her ingenious oatmeal hack might just be our favorite recipe yet.
“When I wake up, I have warm lemon water and then I have a shake or avocado and eggs, which is one of my favorites,” Aniston says. “I sprinkle a little coconut oil on that. Sometimes I’ll have a puffed millet cereal with a banana, or I’ll do oatmeal with an egg white whipped in at the end.”
It might not sound delicious at first but hear her out. She swears by the hack, an astute trick taught to her by her ex-husband Justin Theroux.
“He taught me that little move to get extra protein! Right before [the oatmeal] is finished cooking, you just whip in an egg white and it kind of gives it this fluffy texture that’s delicious,” she explains.
You could definitely mix in a whole egg instead if you’d prefer but using just the white likely makes the addition essentially undetectable. Aerating the white with a whisk prior to pouring it into the oatmeal makes for a puffier, thicker oatmeal that’s bound to keep you full longer.
It works for souffle eggs, meringue and pancakes, so why not oats? In Rachel Green we trust.
Incorporating egg whites gives the oatmeal a creamy, fluffy texture and also boosts the amount of protein in your breakfast, which can help keep you feeling full until lunchtime.
For food, she usually picks one of three choices: avocado and eggs with a little coconut oil, oatmeal whipped with egg whites, or a protein shake. All three options are high in protein and will keep you full for longer, which helps to decrease snacking throughout the day.
When lunch comes around, she's hungry for something more substantial. "I'll usually have lunch around one or two, and it's usually some form of vegetables and a protein."
The salad Jen ate on the set of Friends was a Cobb Salad, while this salad is a riff on a tabbouleh. She shared it years ago on Instagram with the caption “My perfect salad”, and was nice enough to also list the ingredients that were inside her bowl. Celebrities — they're just like us!
My general philosophy is to eat healthy. It's pretty clear: Eat as much organic fruits and veggies as you can, keep sugar [intake] low, drink tons and tons of water and get good sleep. I allow myself to indulge once in a while... I don't give myself any rules anymore."
Following her breakup with actor Justin Theroux, I did not expect Jennifer Aniston to reveal that her ex-husband changed the way she made oatmeal, her favorite breakfast dish. The twist? Thanks to Justin Theroux, Jen never forgets 1 ingredient to turn her bowl of oats from flat to fluffy to the max: egg whites.
Aniston's diet generally focuses on nutrient-dense ingredients, including fruits, veggies, proteins, and heart-healthy fats. Here are some foods that she eats: Fruits: berries, apples, bananas, peaches, plums, kiwis.
She did in fact, eat a cobb salad instead everyday consisting of chopped lettuce, chicken breast, turkey bacon, boiled egg, and so on with her co-star Lisa Kudrow.
Instead, for her, it's all about a simple pasta dish—a riff on an Italian classic, carbonara. Aniston shared her love of the dish during an interview with People back in 2016. At the time of the interview, she shared that she made the dish at least twice a week.
Jennifer Aniston used to eat the same salad every day for 10 years on the set of "Friends." Videos on TikTok have been going viral with what they claim was Aniston's salad recipe. Aniston has now debunked the videos and said her recipe was "totally different."
Aniston's salad is low in calories, high in vitamins and nutrients, filling, and great for weight loss goals, according to Feder. "This salad recipe is very calorie friendly and is a complete meal," he says. "It contains healthy amounts of fats, and protein, and is low in carbohydrates.
'Jennifer, Lisa [Kudrow] and I ate lunch together every single day for 10 years,' she said. 'And we always had the same thing - a Cobb salad. But it wasn't really a Cobb salad. It was a Cobb salad that Jennifer doctored up with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans and I don't know what.
Aniston shared, “My body doesn't love carbs. These days, if I was being super picky, I would love to drop 5 pounds. That is just where I have always been really comfortable at about 110 to 113 pounds.
You'll struggle to find pictures of Aniston wearing vibrant colours or splashy prints, as she almost exclusively wears black, navy, grey and shades of cream or beige.
Jennifer wakes up at 8:30 or 9 a.m. ... when she has the choice. "If I haven't slept and I don't have to do anything until the afternoon I'll try to make myself get the extra hours or hour at least," she says. But, Jennifer is often up much earlier.
Jennifer Aniston has revealed her favourite comfort food - nachos. The Hollywood star, 55, often indulges in the cheesy treat, and even once admitted that she would still eat nachos even if they had fallen on the floor. “I love Mexican food in general,” she later said, doubling down on her obsession.
In the issue, Aniston detailed the four rules she lives by to stay healthy, telling the publication, "I drink a lot of water, move my body daily, try to eat whole, fresh foods, and get as much sleep as I can." "That last part is challenging for me, but it's so important," she added.
On days where she's not sticking to a fully wholesome and healthy diet of protein and veggies, Jennifer is said to love Mexican food (same) and revealed should she ever get a late night craving, she would opt for frozen yoghurt topped with granola. Oh, and she makes a mean 'healthy' carbonara!
