Herbalism allows you to gather various plants and herbs throughout the world. These herbs are used for a variety of different uses such as creating both flasksand potions from Alchemy. Herbalism can be a great profession forfarming gold through raw materials.
1.
Introduction
Herbalism is one of the few gathering professions available to players. Thisprofession focuses on collecting resources in the form of herbs, rather thancrafting items or consumables for use. These gathered herbs are most commonlyused together with Alchemy to create various potions, flasks, andelixirs.
When you have the Herbalism skill, you can use Find Herbs to trackand show the location of nearby herbs on your minimap. Make sure to keep thisup whenever you are out gathering or you will have a much harder time findingnodes.
Druids make great Herbalists as they are capable of gatheringherbs while in Flight Form and
Swift Flight Form, saving them the time of having to mount up after gathering each individual herb.
While focused on gathering herbs, it is highly recommended to use a movementspeed increase, such as Crusader Aura or
Riding Crop. This will greatly help with the amount of herbs you can gather in a session asthe movement speed lets you get herbs you would have otherwise missed.
You may also find that Herbalism can be used to complement yourgoldmaking in TBC Classic. For more information on this among other methodsinvolving alternative professions, please see our separate guide on the topic:
TBC Classic Goldmaking Guide
2.
How to Gather Plants
When Herbalism is learned as a profession, you will also learn a skill calledFind Herbs that will show nearby plant nodes as a golden point on yourminimap. This allows you to see herbs in hidden areas or off-screen so you cangather any nearby plants.
When you approach a herb, you can interact with it to try and gather theplant. However, you cannot gather all plants from the start; you will seedifferent colors representing how hard is it for you to gather that specificplant. These colors represent the skill level needed to gather the plant and arethe following:
- Red means that plant needs a higher skilllevel than you currently have and you cannot gather it yet.
- Orange means you can gather this plant, but your attempts may fail. Every successful attempt is guaranteed to increaseyour Herbalism skill.
- Yellow means you can normally gatherthis plant, your attempts may occasionally fail, and most successful attemptsincrease your Herbalism skill.
- Green means you can easily gather thisplant, your attempts will rarely fail, and you will rarely increase yourHerbalism skill by gathering these.
- Gray means you can gather this plant withno effort, your attempts will never fail, and they will never increase yourHerbalism skill.

1-50
To start off you will be gathering Silverleaf and
Peacebloomin the low-level starting areas. At 15 you can begin to gather
Earthroot to help speed up the process.
- 1-50 —
Peacebloom
- 1-50 —
Silverleaf
- 15-50 —
Earthroot
Once you have reached 50 Skill in Herbalism, head to your local trainer tolearn Journeyman Herbalist, allowing you to progress up to 150 Skill.
50-70
To quickly get through these skill levels, focus mostly on Earthroot and
Mageroyal as they remain the highest chance to grant a skillincrease.
70-100
Here players will continue their earlier pathing and continue to gather Earthroot and
Mageroyal. Now you should also prioritizegathering
Briarthorn as it offers a guaranteed skill-up.
- 70-100 —
Briarthorn
100-115
You will want to head into higher-level zones here and keep an eye out for Bruiseweed while still gathering any herbs that offer a skill increase.
- 100-115 —
Bruiseweed
115-125
You can now gather even more herbs in the area, speeding up this section ofleveling.

- 125-160 —
Kingsblood
160-205
We will need to head into a higher=level zone here and begin picking some moredifficult herbs to continue gaining skill increases. These first few skilllevels may be troublesome as you can run into quite a few herbs that you cannotyet gather. It may be worth staying behind and gathering some lower-level herbsfor a couple extra skill-ups before changing zones.

Azeroth Alternative 300-345
It is possible to train Herbalism up to very high skill levels in Azeroth if youwish to do so. While this is not the recommended method, it can be useful ifOutland herbs are highly contested. While it is possible to reach 375 Herbalismin Azeroth, we recommend heading into Outland around skill levels 325-345 as itwill start to become much more difficult to skill-up at this point.
300-325
A few Classic WoW herbs can be found in Outland and used to skill up yourHerbalism in both Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh. Keep an eye out for theseas they are a large part of your early skill-ups gained in Outland. Noteworthy Herbs
In TBC, a few of the herbs and additional looted items found in herbs haveuses beyond just crafting. Here you can see a list of all the special herbs andusable consumables that can be found throughout Outland.
Fel Blossom — Allows Herbalists to absorb 750 to 1250 damage.
Flame Cap — Causes your ranged and melee attacks to have achance to deal 40 Fire damage; it also increases Fire spell damage by 80 andlasts for 1 minute. This is a great offensive option, especially for Fire-damage.casters.
Nightmare Seed — Increases your health by 2000 for 30 seconds. These are used frequently in PvE, especially by tanks.
Ancient Lichen — Used for many different potions and flasks. This can be rather rare since it can only be gathered in dungeons.
Mana Thistle — This herb is needed to make every TBC flask, making it one of the most expensive normal herbs available.
Fel Lotus — Also needed for every TBC flask. It has a chanceto be obtained from any Outland herb node, making it difficult to regularly farm.
