It just feels like a lifetime ago now since we first showed many, many people how simple it is to cook hard boiled eggs in the air fryer.

We always think instant pot hard boiled eggs, don’t we? We don’t think that the other popular kitchen gadget could give it a run for its money with boiled eggs too.

Can You Hard Boil Eggs In An Air Fryer?

Yes you can. It is one of those true cooking hacks of the air fryer and to me it’s a stroke of genius.

You see you think of the effort in cooking boiled eggs in the pan. You have to remember when you put them on, you have to drain them, you have difficulty peeling them and the list goes on and on.

Then if you cook instant pot boiled eggs it’s the time taken to pressure, plus some people making it overcomplicated.

But take the air fryer. You load up to a dozen eggs into the air fryer basket, air fry and then do our easy peel method.

You are done. No real effort involved and they peel so well that you don’t need a water bath.

Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs Without Rack

You also don’t need a rack when you cook boiled eggs in air fryer. In fact, they sit directly in the air fryer basket, making your job much easier.

Air Fryer Devilled Eggs

I don’t make them as often as I should, but the air fryer is fantastic for transforming your air fryer hard boiled eggs into air fryer devilled eggs.

Easy Peel Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs

The best thing to do once your eggs have finished cooking in the air fryer, is to load them into a jug or bowl of cold water.

We are not talking an ice bath here, just something to cool them down enough to touch and so that you can also rinse off the peel.

Then crack the eggs on the top and the bottom and gently roll them on a clean worktop.

As this can be hard to explain in writing, I have included our easy peel technique in full in the video below and you will never struggle to peel and egg again!

Preheat an air fryer to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Place eggs in the air fryer basket. Cook eggs in the preheated air fryer for 15 minutes. Transfer eggs to a cold water bath until fully cooled, 8 to 10 minutes.

Why are my air fryer hard boiled eggs so hard to peel? ›

But that's just from the hot air circulating rapidly and creating pressure on the egg shells. It's completely normal if that happens, and the peeled eggs aren't affected. As soon as they're cooked, place the hard boiled eggs in an ice water bath, made with cold water and ice cubes.

How do you keep eggs from bursting in an air fryer? ›

Eggs won't explode in the air fryer as long as you don't cook them at too high a temperature. You might hear a cracking noise when they are in the air fryer, but they aren't exploding. How many eggs can I cook at once? This will depend on how big your air fryer is.

What is the trick to making hard boiled eggs? ›

Place eggs in a medium pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a boil, then cover the pot and turn off the heat. Let the eggs cook, covered, for 9 to 12 minutes, depending on your desired done-ness (see photo). Transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water and chill for 14 minutes.

Does adding vinegar to hard-boiled eggs make them easier to peel? ›

The vinegar in the water makes the eggs easier to peel. Here's why: The vinegar's acid not only dissolves some of the calcium carbonate in the shell, it also helps the whites set faster. Running the hard-boiled eggs under cold running water as you're peeling, meanwhile, helps the shell separate from the membrane.

What do you put in the water with hard-boiled eggs to make them peel easier? ›

According to our friends at Delish, adding a teaspoon of baking soda to your boiling pot of water will help the shell peel off seamlessly. Why? The alkaline in the baking soda will help your egg whites loosen up from the shell, making it easier to peel.

What happens if you air fry an egg in the shell? ›

How many minutes should I leave the eggs in for soft egg air fryer? ›

Cook Times: Keep in mind that the cook times will vary depending on how to like your eggs. For air fryer soft boiled eggs with slightly runny whites: 9 minutes. For jammy eggs, 11 minutes. For just slightly undercooked yolks: 13 minutes.

Does adding salt to water make hard-boiled eggs easier to peel? ›

Basically, salt helps the egg firm up. Boiling eggs with salt doesn't help with peeling them, though. As with a teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of salt didn't seem to make any difference in peeling the eggs.

How do restaurants peel hard-boiled eggs? ›

When restaurants need to prepare a large quantity of hard-boiled eggs, they use a technique involving a plastic container and some tap water that makes the eggs peel themselves.

Why are my hard-boiled eggs not hard? ›
