O.J. Simpson, the famous former NFL player and controversial figure, has passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 76.
Simpson went down as a Hall of Famer after playing 11 seasons in the NFL across stints with the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers. He is renowned as one of the greatest running backs in the sport's history, despite having never won or played in a Super Bowl.
However, Simpson became one of the most divisive figures in the entire United States after he was accused of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman, back in 1994 when he was still a football player.
Simpson would go on to plead not guilty and was acquitted of the case after a long trial that was followed widely across the US.
In 1996, however, he was found guilty of the civil case regarding Ron and was ordered to pay the Goldman family $33.5 million in damages.

After separating from his late wife back in 1992, a court filing stated that O.J. claimed to have a net worth of $10.8 million and a monthly income of $55,000.
Despite being ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages to the Goldman family, he reportedly only paid $500,000 of it back.
In his later years, OJ was receiving $42,000 a year in Social Security, and had an NFL pension worth $5 million dolllars, from which he would receive $125,000 and $300,000 annually, and which the Goldman family were not allowed to claim from due to state law protecting him.
