I was disappointed in the flavor. I basted frequently, but still found it to be bland, especially given all of the ingredients. I much prefer the Grilled Salmon with East-West Spice Rub and Orange-Soy Glaze.

I made this tonight exactly as written and it's wonderful! My husband, 7 year old and I all loved it. My salmon fillets were very thick (probably 3 inches) so I had to grill it quite a bit longer. But by searing it on the skinless side first for about 4 minutes, then flipping it and cooking for another 15 minutes, it was perfect. I basted it often and cooked the marinade down for a sauce that I drizzled over the top. I will definitely be making this again!

Wow, we loved this. Mqrinated it a couple of hours and grilled it. Basted it frequently as we grilled it. Came out perfectly! As others recommended we saved the marinade and simmered it on the stove to drizzle over the fish and rice we served with it. Awesome! Had some marinade left so we grilled some peach halves basted with maple syrup and then drizzled the marinade over them. better than bananas Foster!!!

My first bite was very disappointing. It did not have much flavor and it should with all of the great ingredients. Turns out husband missed an appointment step in the recipe..."baste frequently" with the reserved marinade. I'm bummed and will have to try it again..BASTE FREQUENTLY.

Easy but not much flavor. I wouldn't make this again as I've got much better salmon recipes.

I didn't get to eat this, just did the prep work. Made the marinade in the morning & left in fridge. That afternoon the salmon was added to the bag and brought to a cookout where I'm told it grilled perfectly, looked & tasted great. Will have to make it again and see for myself -or- find some other use for the leftover bourbon!

My daughter and I made this recipe last night - the salmon was scrumptious, and we also deglazed the sauce with a pat of butter and poured in on the salmon, and whipped potatoes - we mixed sweet and white potatoes. It was fantastic. We grilled red and yellow peppers and they tasted good dipped in the sauce. It was so good, we were still talking about it the next morning.

I don't like salmon, but I made this anyway because my husband loves it.. And suddenly I like salmon. It was THAT good. After marinating, I thickened up the sauce on the stove and poured it over the cooked salmon. I would serve it to company anytime.

This is beyond outstanding. It is such an elegant entree. I have never gone without rave reviews when I serve this at a dinner party. I have used the marinade to glaze steelhead fillets which I smoke on our Traeger grill. Superb!!! I have used this recipe no less than 5 times this year alone. A list topper when I want to serve fish. It is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I baked the salmon / marinade wrapped in foil a 350 oven rather than grilling. Usually we just bake the salmon and use a balsamic reduction as a sauce at the table. This recipe challenges my simpler preparation method and is sure to become a favorite way to have our weekly meal of salmon.

Delicious recipe! I didn't have time to marinate the salmon, so I combined the marinade ingredients & boiled them down to a glaze which ended up working wonderfully. I just applied the glaze a couple of times throughout grilling -still full of flavor!

This is by far one of the best Salmon recipies I have ever eaten. Nothing was overpowering here, all the ingredients meshed. I will be making this again soon, next time for company, although it was a snap to prepare for everyday because I had all of the ingredients on hand. Love it when that happens!!!

This is a great recipe. It's quicky, easy, and only has a few ingredients. I grilled it on a piece of aluminum foil until it came apart with a fork. I served it over rice with a salad on the side. My wife loved it - I will definitely make again.

I had everything on hand to make this so I thought I would give it a try. It had amazing flavor and was pleasantly surprised. I would cook it for less time though because my filets were bigger than what the recipe called for and I cooked them for less time and they were medium.

I did this recipe over the 4th of July and used Hawaiian Opah. Oh..My..Gosh!!! It was outstanding. I plan to use it on Salmon just to compare. I served this with a recipe found from this website, Asparagus Rafts. They both have a bit of soy and compliment each other deliciously Presentation was beyond what I had expected. A quick, casual, do ahead and yet impressive meal. Everything was made ahead and assembled last minute. This is most definitely a keeper.

FAQs

How to cook and eat salmon? ›

Preheat oven to 500°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and drizzle with olive oil. Add the salmon fillets and turn to coat in the oil; season with salt and pepper. Roast until salmon is opaque on the outside and just translucent on the inside, about 5 minutes.

Is grilled salmon well done? ›

It's best to slightly undercook rather than overcook your salmon filets. Salmon is done typically when it reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees F. Step 5: let it rest. Once you've removed your salmon from the grill be sure to let it rest for a couple of minutes to seal in the flavor and juices.

How to properly grill salmon? ›

Place the salmon skin-side down on the hot grill and cover. Cook, undisturbed, until the salmon just starts to release its fat (opaque mayonnaise-like stuff), or until it reaches 145 F, which takes about 15 to 20 minutes for most 1-inch-thick fillets. Allow another 5 to 10 minutes for each extra inch of thickness.

What to put on salmon before cooking? ›

You can salt fish just before cooking, but for best results, salt at least 30 minutes beforehand. Use a teaspoon of salt per pound of salmon. A light dusting of ground pepper after salting will lend a slight bite to the finished product. You can also add other common household spices to the mix.

What is the best method to cook salmon? ›

Wrap your salmon in a parchment packet with aromatics, citrus, veggies, and a drizzle of olive oil. The steam trapped in the packet will infuse the fish with flavor and cook it gently, making it tender and juicy. Bonus: The parchment packets only take about 15 minutes at 425°F and the cleanup is minimal.

Is it better to grill salmon in foil or not? ›

While you can grill salmon without foil (see these classic Grilled Salmon Fillets and Cedar Plank Salmon for recipes), for a foolproof method that works especially well for a large piece of salmon, use the foil packet method. Using foil to make a packet around the salmon keeps the salmon moist when grilling.

How many minutes do you grill salmon? ›

A general rule of thumb is to grill for 6 to 8 minutes for every inch of fish. So, if your salmon fillet is one-inch thick, you should grill it for 3 to 4 minutes per side. You'll know it's done when the flesh turns opaque and easily flakes when pressed with a fork.

How long should I leave salmon on the grill? ›

1. Open the grill lid and place the salmon, skin-side down, on the hot zone. Most of the cooking will take place on the skin side. Allow 6 to 8 minutes, depending on the thickness.

How to season salmon? ›

Using your hands or a brush, rub a dollop of quality olive oil on the flesh side of your salmon filet. Next, season generously with kosher sea salt and pepper. For a classic flavor, try adding garlic powder, dried basil, dried parsley, and onion powder. If you want a smokier taste, use paprika, chile powder, or cumin.

Is it better to pan fry or grill salmon? ›

Grilling salmon is considered a healthier alternative to frying or deep-frying because it requires less oil. The excess fat in salmon drips away during grilling, reducing the overall calorie content. Tips for grilling salmon: Grill at medium-high heat, between 375 and 400 degrees F.

Do I need to flip salmon on the grill? ›

Season salmon with salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste. Scatter herbs over the top, and place skin-side-down on the grill. Close lid and cook without turning for 10 to 15 minutes (depending on thickness), or until salmon is just barely cooked through.

Why does my salmon stick to the grill? ›

Start with hot, clean grates.

Hot, clean grill grates are absolutely crucial when cooking a delicate protein like seafood. Any residual bits that are stuck to the grates will turn into sticking points that make it hard to get the fish off the grill and back onto your plate.

How should I eat my salmon? ›

There are a lot of ways you can cook salmon: It can be baked, broiled (one of my favorites!), or slow-roasted (my other favorite!); it can be pan-seared, poached, or grilled; it can be made in the slow cooker and the air-fryer. You can cook salmon straight from frozen.

Is it better to bake or pan fry salmon? ›

If you enjoy a crispy exterior, then pan seared salmon is the way to go. Baking salmon is a great option for a larger piece of fish (try this Baked Salmon in Foil for an easy technique).

Do you cook and eat salmon with the skin on? ›

Salmon is one of the healthiest and most popular fishes to make, and if you like the skin, there's absolutely no reason to discard it. In fact, the salmon skin is known to be an excellent source of minerals, plus omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins B and D, and more nutrients.

Is it better to cook salmon in the oven or on the stove? ›

For smaller, crispy, skin-on Salmon; a crispy pan sear is recommended. For bigger fillets, and succulent, skin-off King Salmon; the best method would be cooking in an oven.
