Using this method via the launcher does not allow you to transfer your settings to PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 and can only be used for PC and Mac.
Once you've logged into the Final Fantasy 14 launcher, choose the Settings button (the cog) on the top right.
Scroll down to the 'Advanced Settings' and beside 'Backup Tool', click the 'Back Up' button.

A pop up will appear prompting you to save a backup in a designated folder, click 'Backup' to complete the process. In the same place, you can restore previous data if you wish.
We advise checking the 'Do not overwrite older data' box to avoid losing data you may want later.

- A Client Settings button beside 'World' and 'New Character'.
- A Character Settings button beside each of your character names.
Click the settings button to go in and choose whether you wish to download a backup (to apply your previous backup settings), upload a backup (to save your data to the server to download later), or restore settings. You can only upload backup data once every 24 hours.
You can use these options to back up your client and character settings, but if you're using this method, you must back up each character individually.

If you want to backup your information the old-school manual way, you can find your character files under this pathway on your computer:
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\
Make sure you replace 'YourName' with your username on your PC.
Copy/backup the character folders you wish to keep and transfer to USB or HDD as needed.
On your new computer, install the game and go to the same pathway as above to reach the same folder. Copy and paste your saved files into this folder and choose to replace files to ensure your character data, such as hot bars and HUD layout, will be ready and waiting for you when you boot up the game.
