I always wanted to bake this kind of choco chip cookies at home and kept searching for the recipe that is eggless.

One more thing that kept me postpone trying these cookies is the fact that Aj is allergic to cocoa and Vj is not big fan of cookies either.

So if I bake these, the only person going to eat the whole thing is me🙄. But few weeks back, Vj showed me a cookie making video and I got very much inspired seeing it.

But there is no relation between the recipe I watched and this recipe. This recipe is one, I got from Priya’s versatile recipes, the real super blogger, who has almost all possible recipes in her blog!

I found this one very easy and interesting. So just halved the recipe and tried it.

Why I love this

And when I took a bite from the baked cookies, I was totally spellbound by its taste and texture. It was just as good as the famous amos cookies I have tasted.

It is very easy to make with no fancy items in it. All possible ingredients and mainly no commercial egg replacer. Easy enough for a beginner baker.

I am going to try to bake these cookies with few variations keeping this as base. Your kids gonna love this if you bake for them. So bake off these and let me know.

Storage

Cool completely before storing. You can use airtight container or a cookie jar. Stays good for two weeks at room temperature and upto two months in refrigerator.

My notes

  • I used mini semi sweet chocolate chips and used it in room temperature too. So it was kind of getting mashed in the dough. So, suggest to do it gently as well as top it more after flattening for a better looking cookie.
  • Cookie spreads very well, so make sure to leave enough space for spreading.

2. After that, heat it until you get a creamy texture. I just did it with my whisk for some 4 -5 minutes. Then add vanilla, choco chips, milk to it.

3. After that, add the mixed flour to it and gather everything to make a dough. Be gentle and do not mash the chocolate chips. (I used tiny chips, so it got slightly mashed.)

Then divide into desired number of balls. I made 6 jumbo and 8 medium sized cookies, so divided according to that.

4. After that, flatten the balls over a lined cookie tray (with butter paper) with enough space in between as the cookie tend to expand. Baking time is around 15 – 20 minutes.

Mine got baked at 18 minutes. So keep an eye after 15 minutes and bake until golden in colour.

FAQs

Do I need to put eggs in my cookies? ›

Reach for some applesauce or mash up a banana.

Both of these substitutes add moisture to the baked good, like eggs, but they can impart a little flavor to the mix (your cookies will probably taste a little reminiscent of banana bread, which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

Why did my homemade chocolate chip cookies go flat? ›

OVEN IS TOO HOT

If your cookies consistently come out flat, you may have selected the wrong baking temperature. If you bake cookies using too much heat, the fats in the dough begin to melt before the other ingredients can cook together and form your cookie's rise.

What happens if you add too little eggs to cookies? ›

If there isn't enough egg, your batter or dough may not be able to hold its structure or could end up overly dry or dense. On the other hand, if there is too much egg, your baked goods could lose their shape due to excess liquid, or have a rubbery (or even overly cakey) texture depending on the recipe.

Can I leave eggs out of cookies? ›

A simple combination of water, baking powder, and vegetable oil mimics eggs almost to a T. It's a great option for cookies, quick breads, and brownies.

Should I use baking soda or baking powder in cookies? ›

Baking soda is typically used for chewy cookies, while baking powder is generally used for light and airy cookies. Since baking powder is comprised of a number of ingredients (baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, etc.), using it instead of pure baking soda will affect the taste of your cookies.

What makes cookies fluffy and not flat? ›

Flour adds fluff and texture to the cookies. Adding too little flour can cause cookies to be flat, greasy, and crispy. Most recipes assume you'll use all-purpose, but if you want a lighter, crumblier cookie texture, choose one with a lower protein content such as cake-and-pastry flour.

Does melted butter make cookies flat? ›

If the butter is any warmer, it won't incorporate enough air and your cookies will have less rise. Moreover, butter that's warmer than room temperature melts in an instant in the oven, encouraging the dough to spread quickly with it.

What does vanilla extract do to cookies? ›

Vanilla does offer more than just a bit of floral flavor. Sometimes it's a flavor enhancer and sometimes it's a flavor balancer. But to be honest, unless it's a vanilla cookie, it's not a true dealbreaker. Especially if you're making cookies that have lots of other flavors going on, like coconut or dark chocolate.

Should you beat eggs before adding to cookies? ›

To get perfectly soft, chewy cookies, you need to beat the eggs, butter, and sugar for up to five minutes.

What does extra yolk do to cookies? ›

A cookie made with extra egg yolk (or, in this case, only egg yolk), will be lighter and chewier than a cookie made with whole eggs. The cookies will also have a richer flavor thanks to the added fat in egg yolk.

Can you overmix eggs in cookies? ›

An overmixed egg foam will be slack, wet, loose, and unable to hold peaks. An overmixed egg foam will look dull or broken, like cottage cheese. With the addition of flour, an undermixed batter will have uneven streaks or visible pockets of flour.

Is it safe to eat cookie dough without eggs? ›

If you're thinking that choosing an eggless cookie dough recipe makes it safer, think again. It's not just raw eggs that come with a food poisoning risk. Uncooked flour can contain illness-causing bacteria, too. Indeed, eating raw flour was linked to two recent outbreaks of Shiga toxin-producing E.

Are eggs necessary for baking? ›

Therefore, although you can occasionally substitute other foods, egg plays an essential role in many recipes - especially in the world of pastry, where they are as essential as chocolate or butter. All in all, whether you're making cookies or breakfast, eggs are a staple element in any recipe.

Do all cookies contain eggs? ›

Can I use butter instead of eggs in cookies? ›

Nearly any nut or seed butter is a delightful substitution for eggs: peanut, cashew, almond, or sunflower butter are all delicious choices that also add a distinct earthy flavor to the recipe. These work as a binder to keep the batter together, while adding richness & extra nutritional value to the final product.
